Mildred H. Grings Sunday, March 21, 1920 - Tuesday, March 02, 2010

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 4, 2010 from 4-7 P.M. at Bentley Funeral Home, Wilton, IA. Additional visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at Grace United Church of Christ, Wilton, IA. Services will be held on Friday, March 5, 2010, at 10:30 A.M. at the Grace United Church of Christ. The officiant will be Pastor Bill Anderson. Musical selections will be provided by organist Deb Mohr and vocalist Henry Bentley. Serving as casket bearers will be Jeff Grings, Brett Grings, Tim Birkhofer, Alan Birkhofer, Ken Bland and Dick Bullard. Interment will take place at the Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery, Muscatine, IA. A memorial fund has been established in her memory.

Mildred H. Grings, age 89, of Moscow, IA, died on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, IA. Mildred was born March 21, 1920 to Millard and Effie (Birkhofer) Johnson in Muscatine County, IA. Mildred graduated from the Wilton High School in 1937. She later attended AIC, Davenport, IA. She married Thomas J. Grings on December 11, 1939 in Wilton, IA. He preceded her in death on September 11, 2006. Mildred and Tom farmed a century family farm in the Moscow area for 68 years. She was an active member of Grace United Church of Christ, Wilton, IA, the order of Eastern Star Purity Chapter, Wilton, IA and the Muscatine County Farm Bureau. She enjoyed doing needle work and was involved in the quilting group at the Church. Mildred was an excellent cook and took great pride in the quality of her baking and enjoyed sharing it with family and friends. She grew a large garden every year and shared the fruits of her labor. She loved attending her grandchildren and great-grandchildren's activities. Above all, her life centered around the farm, her Church and her family.

She is survived and lovingly remembered by her daughter Donna White of Annapolis, MD, her son Jerry and his wife Karen Grings of Moscow, IA, 6 grandchildren: Jeff and his wife Paula Grings, Brett and his wife Sue Grings and Beth Grings all of Wilton, IA, Anne White of Denver, CO, Sara White of Severna Park, MD and Katy White of Chappaqua, NY as well as 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her brother Marvin Johnson.
