Clemmit V. Gustafson Tuesday, May 20, 1924 - Monday, July 19, 2010

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 from 4-7 P.M. at Bentley Funeral Home, Durant, IA. Additional visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at Calvary United Methodist Church, Walcott, IA. Services will be held on Thursday, July 22, 2010, at 10:30 A.M. at the Calvary United Methodist Church, Walcott, IA. The officiant will be Rev. Connie Markle. Musical selections will be provided by Robyn Stender. Interment will take place at the Walcott Cemetery, Walcott, IA. Memorial donations may be made to Calvary United Methodist Church or a favorite charity in his memory.

Clemmit V. Gus Gustafson, age 86, of Walcott, IA, died on Monday, July 19, 2010 at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus in Davenport, IA after a courageous battle with cancer. Gus was born May 20, 1924 to Carl and Sarah (Tweeten) Gustafson in Winnebago Co., IA. He married Elaine M. Lahl Riessen on October 7, 1960 in Muscatine, IA. Gus graduated from Forest City High School, Forest City, IA. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a gunner on Merchant Marine ships. Gus worked construction for Hallett Construction Co and McCarthy Improvement until 1981. He later worked as a mechanic with Gierke-Robinson Co. and farmed in rural Blue Grass where he raised stock cows, retiring in 1998. He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Walcott, IA, the Walcott American Legion Post #548 and VFW Post #1870, Durant, IA. Gus enjoyed working on the acreage surrounding his pond where he enjoyed fishing with his grandsons and friends.

He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife Elaine of Walcott, his daughters: Rebecca and her husband Robert Day of Houston, TX and Carol and her husband Steven Foster of Davenport, IA, his son Gregory and his wife Paula Riessen of Walcott, IA, his grandsons Alexander and Jared Riessen and his sister Charlotte Nelson of Forest City, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Margaret Nyhus and Ruth Olson, his brothers: Gustaf, James W., Cleo, James S., and Victor Gustafson.
